The original director, Anant Balani, unfortunately passed away mid-shoot. Sudhir Mishra stepped in to complete the movie. The film was controversial due to it having many intense scenes, smoking, and alcohol. It was also controversial due to the heavy smoking by Rahul Bose and Kareena Kapoor in the film, as many critics felt it was promoting smoking.
