Pritish Nandy Communications’ highly acclaimed film Chameli will be part of a theatrical week-long celebration of a festival of Kareena Kapoor’s films commencing 20th September in PVR-Inox theatres across India.

Coinciding with the National Cinema Day, the festival of films intends to theatrically showcase for commercial viewing some of the finest works of the reputed actor Kareena Kapoor Khan.

Chameli was first released in theatres in 2004. It was one of a new genre of films that PNC pioneered at the time often referred to as multiplex films. They catered primarily to multiplex watching audiences. Films like Chameli, Jhankaar Beats, Hazaaron Khwahishein Aisi and Pyar Ke Side Effects being the most noted among them.

Chameli starring Kareena Kapoor and Rahul Bose drew enormous critical acclaim at the time and won many awards in India and overseas film festivals. Directed by Sudhir Mishra, the film’s popular music was scored by Sandesh Shandilya. Kareena Kapoor won the Special Filmfare Award for Best Performance.

Originally conceived as an idea by Anant Balani, who passed away during the first phase of filming Chameli, Pritish Nandy persuaded Sudhir Mishra to pick up the mantle as director and Shiv Kumar Subramanium came on board to write the film afresh. Swanand Kirkire wrote the dialogues.
