Pritish Nandy, Chairman of the leading Indian movie production house Pritish Nandy Communications announced today that he and Sascha Vijay Sippy, Chairman of Sholay Media and Entertainment, official right holders of the Sholay franchise have decided to work together to develop the Sholay franchise. This will include the official remake of Sholay and an animated version of the original movie. After that will come the prequel and the sequel. This massive 100 million dollar deal is slated to be one of the biggest handshakes in Bollywood history and brings to an end all media speculation over who will have the right to remake Sholay.
“We are delighted to work with PNC on these movies. We have great respect for their creativity, innovation and excellence in film making. Sholay deserves someone who can respect its scale and magnificence. Pritish Nandy does. It’s the perfect fit for us”, says Sascha Sippy. “We have been hunting for the correct creative and business partner whom we can trust to take our family legacy Sholay to the next level. We have found him.”
“It’s a terrific challenge”, says Pritish Nandy, Chairman, PNC, “and we are ready to pick up the gauntlet. Sholay is not only about remaking a great movie but also about recreating a legend. It’s the biggest and most successful film ever made in Bollywood—by far. It will not be easy we know but we love such creative challenges. And this is as big as they get. We are very impressed with Sascha whose vision for the future of the Sholay franchise is most impressive. Shaan and he have worked diligently to protect the Sholay brand from the day the mantle was passed onto them by their grandfather GP Sippy and I am sure they will take it very far.”
Production on the animated version of Sholay will start very shortly, and the official remake will go into pre-production before the end of the year.
