Pritish Nandy Communications informs that in keeping with its stated objective of encouraging and promoting new talent in the movie business, as well as profiling the work of the great masters of Indian cinema, it has launched its new movie initiative, Guerrilla Flicks. The series producer will be Arindam Mitra, producer of Black Friday, and PNC will put out fifty smart budget features over the next five years under the brand name of Guerrilla Flicks. These films will not only meet their usual commercials objectives; they will also further the cause of good, exciting, new cinema among young, emerging Indian audiences as well as showcase the other face of Bollywood to global viewers.
The first eight films that will go on the floor immediately will include films by Abhijit Chaudhuri, national award winning director and noted ad film maker, Nikhil Bhatt, who has made over 500 ad films, noted scriptwriter and playright Shiv Subramanium, Somnath Sen, noted film maker, Arindam Mitra himself as well as first time directors like Debalaya Bhattacharya and Arjun Bagga. The genres will vary from comedy to action to detective fiction to drama and Guerrilla Flicks will attempt to open up commercial Indian cinema and Bollywood to new ideas and new experiments without compromising on the art of great story telling.
Recently Pritish Nandy Communications signed on a similar understanding for five films with actor and director Rajat Kapoor. Three of them, Raat Gayi Baat Gayi directed by Saurabh Shukla, Ek Tho Chance by Saeed Mirza and A Rectangular Love Story by Rajat Kapoor are already under production and will be released this year in addition to PNC’s own home productions.
“This is our way of staying one step ahead of market trends”, says Pritish Nandy, Chairman, PNC. “We are anticipating the expectations of the new generation of movie viewers who are tiring of Bollywood’s formula movies.”
