The prestigious 2009 South Asian Film Festival in New York, to be held between October 28 to November 3, will have a red carpet Premiere for an Indian feature, Fatso, a film by Pritish Nandy Communications. “Fatso is a fantastic film and it’s a great pleasure for us to make it our Centrepiece Premiere at the Festival”, says Galen Rosenthal, Director of the New York Film Festival.
PNC’s Raat Gayi Baat Gayi, directed by Saurabh Shukla, will also be screened at SAIFF in the Competitions category.
Producer Pritish Nandy and directors Rajat Kapoor and Saurabh Shukla will attend the event in New York as special invitees of the Festival and will walk the red carpet for Fatso and Raat Gayi Baat Gayi. Joining them will be members of the films’ ensemble cast, Ranvir Shorey, Gul Panag, Purab Kohli, Gunjan Bakshi and Neel Bhopalan.
A romantic comedy, Fatso is Director Rajat Kapoor’s fourth film, after Raghu Romeo, Mixed Doubles and Mithya, all of them critically acclaimed. Fatso will be releasing globally in January while Raat Gayi Baat Gayi will be releasing worldwide on December 11, says Rangita Pritish-Nandy, Creative Director of PNC and Producer of the film alongwith Pritish Nandy.
The South Asian International Film Festival is one of the most exciting events on New York’s cultural calendar and film makers from all over the world, of South Asian origin, compete to be part of it. “It’s a delight to be there”, says Rajat Kapoor, “and it shows the growing reach and global acceptance of Indian feature films”. For Producer Pritish Nandy, “its always been a challenge for us to get a romantic comedy into an international film festival as most of them prefer serious, issue based cinema, particularly from a country like India. We are honoured.”
Actor Ranvir Shorey put on 15 kg for Fatso, his fourth movie for PNC, after Pyaar Ke Side Effects, Ugly aur Pagli where he was cast opposite Mallika Sherawat and Raat Gayi Baat Gayi.
